Shibani on the cost of rotisserie chicken, climate refugees, and food and consumer trends for 2023

Shibani is an avid reader, with over 175 books read in 2022. She also enjoys gardening, walking her two rescue dogs, and using her Peloton! After a year-long break, Shibani is bringing back her blog and newsletter in 2023.

In a time where everything changes all the time, consistency is welcome. Even more so when it's something comforting that also makes your life easier.

How and why does the Costco rotisserie chicken remain unchanged at $4.99?! An interesting look at pricing and how it affects shoppers.

This is an interesting approach to climate change that can have real impact. Part of this is possible because of French (and EU) rail infrastructure, something we are sorely lacking here.

I remember reading a piece that the US rail infrastructure is at least 40 years behind Europe, so something like this would be virtually impossible here today. I still like the idea of high fees & taxation on private planes. I hope we start to invest more in trains and related infrastructure.

The Sex Lives of College Girls (on HBO) has a Channing Tatum-esque climate refugee from Kansas as a new addition in Season 2, and it's a tongue-in-cheek joke, but the sad reality is that we should expect to see more of these cases everywhere.

Whether it's hurricanes, or extreme heat leading to air quality issues, or drought, communities across the world are being severely impacted by climate change.

If you're in a "new year" mindset, you may find this piece interesting. It looks like a lot of us are just plain tired, and that’s showing up in what we’re choosing to consume.

"Many Americans are left dealing with the aftermath of Covid, and now the cost of living is quickly taking its toll. It’s no wonder more people are focused on finding catharsis – a way of releasing or managing the frustration they’re facing – in 2023."

As always, I like to end these with something fun. In keeping with the "new year" theme, here's some food for thought (all puns intended)
