issue #17 - the one on motherhood

Everything is set up for the baby.I’ve wrapped up a massive project for work, and my team is on board to handle anything that comes up over the next few months. Our backyard has been transformed into an idyllic space that I plan to spend all summer. My hospital bag will get packed on Sunday (join me on Instagram Live at 2 pm ET!).

We’re ready.

And also, not ready.

If this is your first e-mail from me, welcome! In addition to writing the book How To Pack, I'm an entrepreneur and angel investor, an avid reader, and a mom of a rambunctious 4 year old (with another boy on the way).

Every Saturday, I share the 25 best reads from the Internet (culled from the daily shares on my Instagram), the books I've read that week, and things I'm generally loving at the moment.

If you need to re-download my packing list, you can do so here.

#ThingsILove This Week

What I read/am reading this week:

  • That’s What Frenemies Are For (coming July 30, 2019) - this is the Shake Shack of beach reads. It’s indulgent and satisfying, but doesn’t make you feel gross after inhaling the whole thing in a single sitting. Frenemies has some serious Fitness Junkie/When Life Gives You LuLuLemons vibes at the beginning (the Upper East Side mommy wars meets boutique fitness studio drama), but quickly stands out and develops its own identity. I couldn’t put it down all last Saturday, and I didn’t. Definitely pre-order this for your summer vacations or staycations.

  • The Moment Of Lift - Melinda Gates may be the opposite of approachable, but her book will completely change all that. It’s honest, revealing, and eye-opening on how she’s approached her role as a philanthropist and a woman in the modern world. I didn’t think I would enjoy this book as much as I did.

  • The Bride Test (copy gifted by Book Of The Month) - Helen Huong has a way of writing about big issues - immigration, autism - in a beautiful, humanizing way. The Bride Test is the latest example of that, and it was just a delight to read. My copy arrived on Wednesday afternoon. I finished it Wednesday night.

  • First - Abra and I agreed to wait until May to start (and furiously text one another) this book. It’s worth the wait, and worth every single penny. There is so much I didn’t know about Sandra Day O’Connor, and this book is so satisfyingly detailed about her life and her work.

You can find every book I’ve read this yearhere, and myAmazon favorites here.
