Shibani on teen gun violence activists, warming oceans, and how to meditate

A finance professional by day, Shibani times her free time reading, gardening, using her Peloton, walking her dogs and enjoying her adopted home, Cleveland, Ohio! She has already read 100 books (and counting) so far in 2023, you can find all her reviews in her Instagram highlights and on Goodreads!

I do believe the generation of teens and early 20-somethings will be the ones that help drive change in our world, but frankly, it shouldn't fall to them to do it. This is a reminder to you to please vote in the upcoming November election - it's not a major election for most of us, but it does matter. Every election matters.

Access to reproductive healthcare is on the ballot in November in Ohio, so this issue is close to my heart. But if you're in Ohio, you also need to vote NO on August 8th to make sure that access to reproductive healthcare can pass with a 50%+1 vote in November. Reproductive rights matter, and voters agree.

Our oceans are warmer and it’s going to have a profound impact on weather patterns and food supply (and not just seafood). As much as we might want to stick our heads in the sand and pretend climate change isn’t going to affect us, it is critical that we elect people who are going to try and do something about lowering the temperature of our only home.

I’m sharing this for all of us who feel like we just can’t meditate. I am TERRIBLE at it. Mostly meditation makes me really sleepy. You know that stage right before you fall asleep where your mind is just making leaps between random tangential thoughts? That’s what happens to me EVERY SINGLE TIME I try and meditate. And then I get tired.

As always, I like to end these with something a little fun. Modern society has led to a new list of etiquette rules. Some of these very appropriate gems include #11 - "When another human is present, don’t talk to your animal in the private voice you use when alone together". Smart advice, really.
